About Joe.
Joseph Rossi is a seasoned government relations professional with almost two decades of experience in New York State’s political landscape. As the founder of Modern Advocacy LLC, he brings a wealth of expertise in state and local government relations, business development, relationship management, and strategic planning.
Before establishing Modern Advocacy LLC, Mr. Rossi served as Managing Director and leader of the cannabis practice group at Park Strategies, a prominent New York-based consulting and lobbying firm. In this role, he was recognized as a zealous advocate for his clients, focusing on navigating complex regulatory environments and advancing client interests within the evolving cannabis industry.
The Early Years.
Prior to his tenure at Park Strategies, Mr. Rossi was a senior business advisor with Empire Advocates LLC, a subsidiary of Barclay Damon LLP. He also held the position of Assistant Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. Earlier in his career, he served as Political Director of Service Employees International Union Local 200 United, advocating for labor rights and policies benefiting union members.
In 2018, Mr. Rossi was elected as a Vice Chair of the New York State Democratic Executive Committee, reflecting his deep involvement in state politics. He was also selected to serve on the Democratic National Convention Platform Committee in both 2012 and 2024, contributing to the development of the party’s national policy positions.
Since 2022, Mr. Rossi has been recognized as a Cannabis Industry Power Player by Politics NY and AM New York Metro, underscoring his influence and thought leadership in the sector. His insights have been featured in prominent publications such as The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Politico, New York Post, The City, and The Buffalo News. In 2024, he was also recognized on the Schneps Media Manhattan Power List.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Rossi and his wife founded the annual Syracuse for St. Jude Gala in memory of his parents. This event has successfully raised over $1.9 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mr. Rossi earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the State University of New York at Cortland. He is an active alumnus and continues to engage with the university community.
